I need more room round the chest than the waist for a snug fit.

The lace side adjustment allows the adjustment to be tailored to each shape. Commonly this is to allow extra room round the chest and in at the waist for a good fit.

The size suggested by the size guide is too big/feels loose.

Chest measurement guides in the range tend to be generous. If the chest measurement is close to bordering sizes, select the smaller size to try initially. If a size feels loose always try the size down as there is a cross over between most sizes.

The side adjustment has come undone and the adjustment system can fairly easily be re-laced.

The bottom row of foam doesn’t cover my bottom rib.

One of the made to measure adjustments offered is to add an extra row of foam segments to the front of the body protector. There are two options:

  1. A full row to the front. Suitable where the full row width is required & the extra length will not cause the body protector to sit on the hips at the side & push up.
  2. A tapered/angled row added. Suitable where the extra length is required to cover the ribs at the front but a reduced width at the side prevents the body protector sitting on the hips and pushing up. This is a more common adjustment.

For the Childs X-Large & Adult Medium a long/tall size is available that has a longer body, incl a row longer front.

The body protector is sitting up off the shoulders.

Firstly check that the size down is not a better fit.

This can also commonly be a result of the body protector being too long in the body and/or back. Shortening the front can often resolve this:

  1. A full row removed from the front. Suitable where the removal of the full width will still allow the ribs to be covered.
  2. Tapering of the bottom row. Suitable where the removal of a whole row would expose the ribs. Angling the front row up off the hips, helping the body protector sit down neatly. This is a more common adjustment.
  3. Check the back is the correct length. A back too long can catch and generally push the body protector up, preventing a neat fit over the shoulders.

The body protector is sitting on my hips and pushing up and/or restricting movement.

This indicates the body protector being too long in the body. The front can be shortened in two ways to lift off the hips:

I require one of the larger sizes for the chest and waist but the sizes are too long in the body.

The Adult Large & X-Large sizes are available in a Ladies Fit version. The adjustment removes the bottom row from the front and angles/tapers the next row. The back is shortened by 10cm (or to spec) to correspond. This lifts the protector off the hips of the user and allows it to sit down neatly over the shoulders.

What back lengths are the sizes available with?

Each size is available with a standard & short back option. The difference for Childs sizes is 2.5cm, Adult sizes is 4cm. Other back lengths are available as a made to measure option.

Is there an exact length the back should be?

The correct back length is a personal preference. The ideal balance is long enough to offer protection without becoming too long as to restrict movement or catch the saddle. The correct length will depend on factors such as the depth of the saddle seat and the range of movement required by each discipline.

The back of the body protector is catching the back of the saddle?

This suggests the back length is too long for the user and their saddle. Try a short back option in that size or consider a made to measure back length.

Can I have a custom back length?

Yes - if the short or standard back option isn’t suitable, then one of the made to measure options is a custom back length.

What back lengths are each Level available with?

Level 1 & 2 Jockey Vests are available with either a short or standard back option. Level 3 Jockey Vests are only available with the short back option unless made to measure. This is because they are not commonly used for race riding or require the full length racing tail.

Can I have a custom back length?

Yes - if the short or standard back option isn’t suitable, then one of the made to measure options is a custom back length.

(Please check M2M: Made to Measure Section for diagrams)

A number of made to measure options are available from Racesafe if required to achieve the perfect fit.  Available for the RS2010 & Jockey Vest Level 1, 2 & 3.

The adjustments are designed to alter the length of the front and back of each size, to cater for individuals body shapes. They should only be used as part of a fitting by a trained consultant/shop.

Tall: For core sizes within the range, a longer bodied tall fit is available. Suitable where the
standard size is not long enough.

Front: This features a front with an extra row of blocks.

Back: It also features longer back options compared to the standard size.

              Ladies Fit

For sizes Adult Large & Ex Large a shorter, shaped body is available as a Ladies Fit. Suitable where the standard size is too long in the body.

Front: These feature a front with a row of blocks removed & the next row tapered to lift the
              side off of the hips.

Back: It also features shorter back options than the standard sizes.

The size suggested by the size chart based on the chest measurement is loose?

If towards bottom of the chest measurement range for a size, start by trying the size down. There is an overlap between a number of the sizes within the range of adjustment.

The bottom row of foam doesn’t cover my bottom rib.

Try the Tall fit of the size if available. This has one extra row of front foam compared to the standard size.

Or the made to measure options available to lengthen the front are:

              1. A full row added to the front.

The body protector is sitting up off the shoulders.

This is usually a result of the body protector being too long in the body and/or back. Firstly, check that the size down is not a better fit. Check that it is the standard fit rather than the tall fit being tried. For sizes Large & Ex Large, try the Ladies Fit option. Check the back is the correct length. A back too long can catch and generally push the body protector up, preventing a neat fit over the shoulders.

Or the made to measure options available to shorten the front are:

The correct length will depend on factors such as the depth of the saddle seat and the range of movement required by each discipline.
